Hothfield village is fortunate to have an extensive programme of youth events and activities. The Project is funded by Big Lottery Funding, supported by Kent County Council Integrated Youth Service and is supervised and run by qualified Youth Workers.
Update on the Hothfield Youth Project Hothfield Youth Project has now been running for a year and three months. In that time young people have enjoyed a number of different projects and participated in a full programme of activities each week on a Friday evening. Young people have gained qualifications in First Aid and earned Youth Achievement Awards for a car maintenance project, Girls Activity Weekend and running a Talent Show for 26 acts.
The junior football team Take Oath Jnr’s were winners of the Romany Shield Football Tournament that runs every year to coincide with Black History month and their winning shield is displayed in the Trophy Cabinet in Hothfield Village Hall.
On a weekly basis young people enjoy participating in football skills, table tennis, computer gaming, cooking and arts and crafts. The young members actively participate in issues based discussions and enjoy the freedom of expressing their views and challenging one another in a safe, friendly environment.
The project runs every Friday from 6pm until 8.30pm. All young people welcome from 11 years to 19 years. Volunteers wanted, please contact Bridget King. Hothfield Youth Music Project The Hothfield Music project was a 10 week music course for young people to produce music, write lyrics and gain an understanding of the music industry and the work that goes into producing the music they listen to today.
The project was held in The Bluebells Children’s Centre run by Defcon Workshops and supported by Kent Integrated Youth Services and all costs met by the Big Lottery Funding. Young people were able to express themselves through their lyrics and produced short songs by using things that they valued within their lives. Each young person was able to take home CDs of the work they produced and one young person was brave enough to perform one of their tracks at the Christmas Party on 16th December. Bridget King says, "I would like to thank all the young people that took part and congratulate them for the work they achieved."
Hothfield Youth Project Christmas Party On 16th December 2011 a special person visited the youth project bringing gifts for all the young people that attended the Christmas Party hosted by the project. After the young people enjoyed a mountain of traditional party food they were presented with gifts from Father Christmas and enjoyed party games.
Games included musical parcels, musical chairs, musical statues and hit the piñata. All the young people that attended had a fun evening and went home tired and happy. Good News for Young People in Hothfield (July 2010) ![]() Parish Councillors, with help from Kent County Council, have secured funding from The Big Lottery Fund to provide much-needed youth activities in the village. Separately, with the help of the Bluebells Children's Centre and with some funds from our Kent County Councillor Richard King, primary school children have been enjoying a whole range of activities at the weekly After School Club. The Club has been running for some weeks now and the children have experienced African dancing, singing and have undertaken a project on Hothfield Heathland. It is hoped that these activities will continue during the coming summer holidays. Hothfield Parish Council are very grateful to the Big Lottery Fund, Councillor King and the Hothfield Education Foundation for their support with the Youth Activities. |
